The first Mindanao Lay Leaders Assembly was organized by the Sangguniang Laiko ng Pilipinas at the Our Lady of Manaoag Chapel – Limketkai Commercial Center last July 23, 2016. The 296 participants represented the different lay organizations in the Region.
Bishop Broderick Pabillo, National Director of LAIKO and Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Manila gave a very instructive and enlightening talk on: ‘The Lay Faithful in the Mind of the Church “ and “ The Laity as Leaven of Social Transformation.” In the workshops that followed, the highly motivated participants faced the challenge of identifying the critical issues that affect their lay apostolate and the corresponding doable solutions for them to work for as missionary disciples of Jesus.
The conference ended with a Eucharist presided by Most. Rev. Antonio Ledesma, Archbishop of of Cagayan de Oro with Bishop Pabillo and Fr. Lyndon Zayas, SSJV, concelebrating.
The members of the LAIKO Board thanks Archbishop Ledesma and Dr. Benie Sy, President of the Council of Lay Ecclesial Movements & Organizations of the Archdiocese of Cagayan de Oro(CLEMOACO) for hosting this significant event.
Future Lay Leaders Assemblies will be held in the Archdiocese of Lingayen- Dagupan for Northern Luzon on September 24, 2016, and in Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental for the Visayas on October 1, 2016.
