More than thirty lay Catholics representing the broad membership of Sangguniang Laiko ng Pilipinas and some members of the clergy were enriched and empowered during the Social Media Training jointly conducted by EWTN, Radio Veritas and the Catholic Media Network which started at 8:00 o’clock in the morning of July 29, 2016 and will end on July 30, 2016. Sangguniang Laiko ng Pilipinas aims to upgrade the knowledge and skills of the church’s frontliners on the intricacies of using Facebook, Twitter, Instagram the popular tools of modern communication, and what these realities imply for the way lay Catholics proclaim the Good News. The participants said that they are eager to implement effective social media strategies to reach their target audiences.
Enthusiastically responding to the challenges that new media poses, the participants grappled with new concepts like “media analytics”, “framing” and “cultivation theory” to name a few. Nevertheless, the first day of the training saw the participants energized and looking forward to do more practical activities on the second day.
