The Diocese of Gumaca As a Community of Disciples, united in Christ, in His Sonship and Worship of the Father dedicated to Serve Others As a Church of the Poor, under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, together with Mary, Our Model.

History The Council was organized in 1993 with its officers, namely: President –Bro. Manuel Mercado, Vice President – Bro. Venancio Villafranca; Secretary – Sis. Susan Sosa, Treasurer- Sis Liwayway Tan; Auditor- Bro. Dante Buñag, its first Spiritual Director is Msgr. Jose F. Oliveros (Now the Bishop of the Diocese of Malolos), Bro. Roberto V. Nava served as the Council President from 1997 to 2001, while Bro. Alden R. Villaver headed the Council from 2002 to 2004 with Msgr. Ramon C. Tiama as its Spiritual Director. From 2005 to 2006, the six (6) Major Officers of the Council were Bro. Gines “Jett” A. Valderrama (President); Bro. Bong Apurado (Vice President); Sis. Maria Adeline Lee (Secretary); Sis. Esperanza Tan (Treasurer); Bro. Isidro Fuerte (Auditor); and Bro. Carmelo Haway (Auditor); the Council’s Pastoral Director until 2007 is Rev. Fr. Ramon D. Uriarte. Rev. Fr. Lucito V. Soriano, who is currently the Pastoral Director, is now the Council’s Spiritual Director.
Organizational Structure DCL Gumaca is governed by a Board comprising the Pastoral Director, the Six (6) Major Officers namely: President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Two (2) Auditors and the Five (5) Major Officers: President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, and Auditor of the different Standing Commissions such as Worship, Catechesis and Catholic Education, Service, Temporalities, Vocation, Family and Life and Youth and Five (5) Major Officers of the Lay Active Missionary of the Poor (LAMP), an association of Lay Missionaries of the Diocese working in the Basic Ecclesial Communities, the six (6) Major Officers of the Council are elected every two(2) years on even years (2004,2006,2008…)
Composition of Membership The Diocesan Council of the Laity is composed of the Presidents of the Parish Pastoral Council, the five(5) major officers of the different standing Commissions and the five (5) major officers of LAMP.
Main Activities Conducts quarterly meetings in order to monitor the implementation of the Pastoral programs. In every quarterly meeting, an input is given regarding areas of faith to deepen the knowledge of Lay Leaders. A joint recollection of DCL and Clergy is also being done once a year. The DCL also undergo a yearly three-day-live-in training seminars to form and equip them with leadership skills and capabilities. A yearly evaluation and planning activity is being done in order to know the accomplishments as well as the strengths and weaknesses of the programs as implemented. The office of the Pastoral Director conducts leadership seminar in every parish yearly and as the need arises.
