Mission In response to the challenges of our particular place, time, and culture:

For our Families – We will evangelize families and build communities of faith through Encounters, Life in the Spirit seminars and Discipleship Formation. We will give formation on personal and family prayer, pro-life values, Catholic social teachings, and stewardship.

For our BLD Communities – We will actively participate in the life and mission of the Church in accord with our God-given gifts.

For our Country – We will work on poverty alleviation through scholarships, housing for the poor, and advocacies for life, environment, and good governance.

History BLD started with 20 ME couples together with Fr. Pascual Adorable from ME – Buklod ng Pag-ibig Community of Encountered Couples. Bukas Loob sa Diyos is coined after “Buklod”: Bukas from “Buk”, Loob from “lo” and Diyos from “d”. On January 24, 1984, leaders discerned the community mission. BLDFI was then incorporated on December 12, 1984 with By-Laws ratified on May 23, 1985.On July 31, 1987, the teaching ministry was created for the Christian formation of its members. In November 1993, the first members of the CSL were chosen to serve up to 1997. In February 1998, Bishop Angel Lagdameo was appointed BLD Community Spiritual Director by the CBCP.In 1998–1999, foundation for BLD Global Structure was set in place. As of November 2008, BLD has 49 Districts worldwide, 24 Districts in the Philippines and 25 Districts in USA, Canada and Hong Kong.
Organizational Structure The BLD Covenant Community is composed of BLD Districts located in Dioceses in any part of the world. A BLD District is a group of BLD Covenant Community members residing within an Archdiocese or Diocese. The BLD Community Council of Servant Leaders (“CCSL”) is composed of an Executive Council of Servant of five (5) Servant Leaders. The BLD District Council of Stewards (“DCS”) is the local governing body of a BLD District. It is composed of three (3) to five (5) resident Couple Stewards. Leaders (”ECSL”) and a District Servant Leader (“DSL”) from each Full-term BLD District.   The ECSL is a body who has governance over all BLD District globally and resides in the Ecclesiastical Province of Manila where the seat of the BLD Covenant Community is. Every BLD Covenant Community member is under the pastoral care of those who exercise leadership and governance in the BLD Covenant Community. The BLD Community Spiritual Director exercises pastoral care over the members of the community throughout the world. He is also the pastoral head of the Community Council of Servant Leaders. The ECSL exercises pastoral care over all BLD DCS, together with its District Spiritual Director, while the DSL exercises pastoral care over the BLD District Council of Stewards under their assigned Districts. All governing leaders – Community Council of Servant Leaders and District Council of Stewards are selected through an Emergence Process to serve for a term of three (3) years. Any leader who has served for two terms must go on sabbatical from a governing position for one year.
Composition of Membership A BLD Covenant Community member may fall into three classifications of membership – Regular Member, Committed Disciple or Covenanted Disciple. The entry points to Regular Membership are the Encounter Programs (Marriage Encounter, Singles Encounter, Solo Parents Encounter, Family Encounter, and Youth Encounter). A Committed Disciple is a Regular Member who has completed the Life in the Spirit Seminar and an encounter program, and has freely signed the BLD Covenant Community Commitment – sealed by the action of the Holy Spirit at the Consecration of the Gifts during the Eucharistic Celebration. A Covenanted Disciple is a Committed Member who has freely signed the BLD Covenant Community Covenant – sealed by the action of the Holy Spirit at the Consecration of the Gifts during the Eucharistic Celebration.
Main Activities Evangelization – weekly prayer meetings, encounter programs (Family Encounter, Marriage Encounter, Singles Encounter, Youth Encounter & Solo Parents Encounter), Life in the Spirit Seminars.Formation – Christian Discipleship Formation Program to ensure the spiritual growth of community members for service in the BLD Covenant Community and in the larger Church.

Mission – outreaches in Parishes and Institutions to conduct evangelization and formation programs, conduct of poverty alleviation programs (such as housing for the poor, livelihood programs) and supporting social action programs (medical mission, pro-life advocacy, visiting the sick and the imprisoned).

Pastoral – Pastoral Care Program for all BLD Covenant Community members globally.   Principal venue for pastoral care is the weekly Word Sharing Circles.
