History It started as a training program for Marriage Encounter (ME) couples needing assistance in the development of their talks as ME Weekend Team Couples. The training was conducted by Peewee and Mia Zafra as early as 1984, in coordination with ME communities like Holy Family, St. John Lawin and others, as well as on request from couples from the Christian Family Movement, including the training of couples and a from Thailand sent by the Bishop of Bangkok. From merely conduct of ME Team Training, it branched out to providing other training programs like Parenting; Youth Seminars; Counseling for NGOs, schools, and government agencies particularly DILG, NAPOLCOM, etc in their values formation and strategic planning workshops. In 1989, graduates of the various programs particularly the ME Team Training Seminars and the ME Enrichment Training for Shepherds formed themselves into a loose association called METS Alumni Association. In 2000, in a general assembly, it was unanimously decided that the METS Foundation be formally organized and registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission which granted legal recognizance in 2001. While its programs and projects are not confined to the apostolic work in the Church, but also in network activities with NGOs and GO, it applied for membership with the Council of the Laity and was accredited in 2005.

A Training Staff headed by a Training Director couple is responsible for the development and conduct of the various training modules and programs. The symbol of the parabolic figure and the ball of fire.

The parabola, surging forward depicting dynamism, decisive action, carving a distinctive niche, in a bid to create wholeness; moving forward from individuals/couples to families/communities, from separateness to integration. The ball of fire is the empowering Holy Spirit, an inner fire, fervently burning, energizing, transforming, life-giving, renewing and eternal. The two figures symbolize re-entry of person into the environment, the real world, to which are called to be united and to create. METS Foundation builds on the inherent creative and pro-creative gifts of individuals
