History |
The Divine Mercy Apostolate of the Phil. (DMAP), a registered foundation in 1988, has since developed nationwide into several communities and movements, drawing and sharing the charism from the One Source, the Blood and Water gushing from the pierced heart of Jesus Christ. It was established on November 29, 1988. The first organizational meeting and election of the officers was held at the Arzobispado de Manila, Intramuros, Manila with Msgr. Josefino S. Ramirez as Spiritual Director. Bro. Gene M. Young III was elected President. He did not finish his 3-year term as President. Sis. Thelma M. Magsakay was elected as the second President of DMAP in 1990. Sis. Corazon Venezuela was given the title Honorary Chairwoman in recognition of her outstanding performance in initiating the propagation of the Divine Mercy devotion. Since then, National Conventions were held yearly. On June 2, 1989, council members linked with the international devotees and visited the Divine Mercy Shrine in Krakow, Poland. On June 14, they were granted a private audience with Pope John Paul II at the Vatican. Through the years, DMAP experienced difficulties but not without joy, crises, trials and persecutions of many forms but not without victory; the time of testing seemed endless; the weight of the cross unbearable. The National Spiritual Director, Msgr. Josefino S. Ramirez, prayed for the day when the national directorate can take its role of uniting the country’s devotees, who were like a flock without a shepherd. Msgr. Ramirez, aware that a spiritual formation is an essential aspect in the apostolate, formed a national directorate to guide and unite all devotees in the country for the third millennium. With the birth pangs over, a new beginning has dawned. DMAP is reborn into a mature, strong, courageous and committed community of God – HUMBLY OBEDIENT TO FULFILL HIS PLAN. The DMAP of the third millennium accepts the challenge with faith for He said, “I have made you a light to the nations, a means of salvation to the ends of the earth”. On May 28, 2001 was the blessing of the Divine Mercy National Office and the Launching of the National Institute of Formation. On October 10, 2001, the DMAP was incorporated into a foundation under the title “Divine Mercy: Third Millennium Apostolate of the Philippines Incorporated.” (DMTMAP) Since then, it has been coordinating the various communities throughout the country in promoting the Divine Mercy message through a comprehensive formation program of 100 weeks modules. |
