Politics and Political Participation: A Call for People’s
Solidarity, Empowerment and Social Justice
20 August 2021

The following intentions are for the elderly and grandparents:
– For all the elderly and grandparents: that even in their twilight years they may not cease being witnesses of Christian values and strength of character which are the firm foundations of every society, we pray to the Lord.
– For all those who are hurting and abandoned among our elderly, those who are lonely and sick: that they may find healing and care, consolation and forgiveness, peace and companionship, through us in the Church, we pray to the Lord.
– For all of us: that we may deepen our conviction on the value of every human life from conception to death and be resolute in effectively shunning the “throw-away” culture that sees and treats the old and the weak as objects that have outlived their usefulness, we pray to the Lord.
PRAYER FOR THE ELDERLY AND GRANDPARENTS
This prayer may be said after the post communion prayer:
God our loving Father,
you are the source of life and of all gifts.
You lovingly sustain us at every moment of our lives
and you bring us to fullness of life
in Jesus your Son and our Brother.
We thank you for the wonderful gift of our grandparents and the elderly.
You have given them to us to be our guide
as they share with us the wealth of their experiences
and the wisdom that they have gained through the years.
We thank you for making them witnesses to us
of your abiding presence and care at every turn and change of life.
We pray that you bless all of them with joy and peace,
with satisfaction at the fruits of their labor, and with the faithful love of their family.
Strengthen their trust in your healing mercy
in the face of the mistakes and sins of the past.
Grant them the joy of companionship
of their loved ones and friends.
Protect them from all harm and evil
that can obscure their vision of eternal peace and joy in your Kingdom.
Give them the patience and courage
to bear the cross of sickness and weakness of the body.
Help them see their sufferings and discomfort
as their sharing in the Paschal Mystery of Christ.
Grant us all, their family and friends,
the grace of firm conviction and faith in the value and dignity of every human person
created in your image
and redeemed by the sacrifice of Your Son on the Cross.
May this help us to continue to support, respect, and love them.
We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ your Son,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
God, forever and ever. Amen.

Dear Brothers & Sisters,
Warm greetings. We trust you are finding hope through the difficulties of this pandemic.
We wish to invite you to join us online in 1Sambayan Town Hall: SIMBAHAN AT BAYAN on July 10, 2021 at 3:00 to 6:00 PM.
The People’s Choice Movement, an inter-faith effort to elect good and worthy candidates for the crucial 2022 national election is supporting 1Sambayan and as such is spearheading this Faith-Based sector meeting. In this event, we will talk on issues that are important to people of God in the coming elections. Leaders from various church traditions are going to speak on the biblical basis for our social involvement. At the end of the meeting, we hope to begin a conversation towards a consensus on selecting and voting leaders for the nation.
For a start, the PCM has identified 5 issues that are most important to faith communities – 1) poverty and economics; 2) sovereignty over the West Philippine Sea; 3) the EJK and respect for life; 4) political repression and human rights; and 5) the problem posed to democracy by political dynasties. Bishops from the Catholic, mainline Protestant and evangelical communities have been invited to provide biblical reasons for why these issues are important to us. They will pose a challenge to their respective churches on what can be done and bring a word of encouragement to the flock.
The Bishops we have invited to share their views on the said issues are the following:
There will be an hour of Open Forum to carefully listen and answer questions among the attendees, both on Zoom and on other social media platforms of PCM, 1Sambayan and other networks participating.
We are attaching herewith the program guide for the Townhall meeting. To register, follow this link https://zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_YH1R1QnITL2ucogsatGACQ.
We trust that this meeting will signal the start of circles of discernment and action among our various church traditions, in keeping with our responsibility both as citizens of the Kingdom and of this country.
Yours in Christ,
PEOPLE’S CHOICE MOVEMENT

To our Beloved Bishops,
To our Dear Social Action Directors
To our Dear Ecology Desk Ministers
Greetings!
On behalf of the Catholic Church and the ecological defenders in the country, we would like to thank you for your unending support of the programs and activities of the CBCP National Laudato Si Program, and our Eco-Convergence Project. Your initiatives for ecological protection within your dioceses have been instrumental in the over-all success of our ecological advocacies!
During the past two years, we have received numerous requests from several of you to provide more information on our divestment campaign. Thus, with the Withdraw from Coal group of ecological defenders, we would like to invite you to a National Divestment Learning Event and Dialogue on June 29, 2021 at 3:00 in the afternoon.
This is aimed at increasing our understanding of the divestment campaign, and identify concrete and collective action points to further the campaign, especially in the light of the July 2021 CBCP Plenary Assembly.
The program is attached for your reference. The Zoom link for the event is: https://bit.ly/3gJauCA
