All The More We Should Go To Church

Statement of Sangguniang Laiko ng Pilipinas

The Sangguniang Laiko ng Pilipinas (Council of the Laity of the Philippines) takes cognizance that indeed these are trying times for the Catholic Church in our country. Our bishops and priests are openly and unjustly maligned; our faith in God is being ridiculed. Even God Almighty is irreverently addressed as a ‘stupid’ God. As a matter of fact, just very recently we heard it said that: ‘We should no longer go to Church.”

As Catholics we believe that through the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass we celebrate and remember what Jesus did for us and together we give him thanks because the celebration of the Eucharist is the supreme act of thanksgiving that we could ever offer to God. We bring our families to Church as we unite with the bigger community to express our gratitude to God for his continued presence in our midst and for his unconditional love for all of us.

By actively participating in the Eucharistic celebration, we provide our children with the opportunity to nurture a spiritual life that would strengthen their love for Jesus.

By simply exposing our families to the Word of God, our children would come to know the depth of God’s love for us and the responsibilities entailed by being Christ’s followers. They grow in faith as they are being nourished by God’s Word and the Body and Blood of Christ.

NOW MORE THAN EVER, WE ARE CALLED ‘TO LIVE A LIFE WORTHY OF OUR CHRISTIAN VOCATION’. ALL THE MORE NOW, LET US RENEW OUR COMMITMENT TO:
• be witnesses to one another as we try to live more coherently our Christian life
• stand up for God and defend our faith in him
• selflessly serve and continue to build the Church through our parishes
• GO and FILL UP our Churches, to worship and to thank God
• proclaim our faith courageously not only by our words but especially by the life that we live as faithful followers of Christ.
