History

The Prayer Warriors of the Holy Souls (PWHS) started when Violy Santos, a dear friend of Chita Monfort, Executive Director of PWHS, gave her the first copy of Read Me or Rue It (RMORI) booklet in February 1991.

At that time Dr. Narciso MOnfort, Chita’s husband, an incumbent congressman from Dumangas, Iloilo, was running for senator in the May 1992 election. Since they were in the middle of the very busy campaign period, they were not able to read the RMORI booklet. Election results came in and Dr. Narciso did not make it to the senatorial race; despite this, both felt that it was God’s design that they were given a short vacation from politics.

Sometime in June 1992, having more time in his hands now, Dr. Narciso came across the RMORI booklet that Violy Santos gave Chita. He read it in one sitting and insisted that Chita read it, too. She was struck at the way this booklet had an effect on him, as usually he would simply browse over reading materials she would pass on to him.

Halfway through reading the RMORI booklet, Chita realized her husband’s interest and insistence. Right then and there, she made a decision to do something for the souls in Purgatory. Before long, they started printing and giving away the first 1,000 copies of “Read Me or Rue It” booklet.

Hence, the seed to form an association called “Prayer Warriors of the Holy Souls” was planted in July 1992.
