PALO, Leyte— The Archdiocese of Palo is joining the whole Catholic Church in the country in the celebration of the National Bible Sunday on January 28.

Homilies and prayers in all Masses in parishes churches in Leyte will be focused on the importance of the Holy Bible.

Palo Archdiocesan social media communications secretary Sr. Gemma De la Cruz, FSP, underscored the vital importance of the Bible to the Catholic community and in spreading the Gospel.

She has scheduled a half-day Bible seminar for members of the Leyte media at the Sto. Niño Church in Tacloban City on Saturday afternoon for them to learn more about the Scripture.

The nun said it is important for media practitioners to know more about the Bible not only as Catholics but as bringers of the Good News.

Copies of Waray-waray Bibles will also be given to members of the local media who will attend the first Bible seminar, she said.

“I will also teach the local media on how to read the Holy Bible and also we will have the enthronement of the Holy Bible in their homes,” she said.

De la Cruz said that they have a good sale of the Bible in Tacloban and among their patrons are the various students and professionals of the city.

President Rodrigo Duterte has earlier signed a proclamation declaring the month of January as the ‘National Bible Month’ and the last week of the month as the ‘National Bible Week.’

Proclamation No. 124, signed last January 5, said the State “recognizes the religious nature of the Filipino people and the elevating influence of religion in human society.” CBCPNews
