Pursuing Truth and Justice with Greater Resolve

“I tell you, if these were silent, the stones would shout out.

Luke 19:40b NRSV

July 12, 2022/ 10:00AM- 12:00/ Romano Hall, Baclaran Church

We are cordially inviting you and your community to a gathering of church people for reflection and reasoning on our prophetic role in this kairos moment in our nation’s life.

A specter of historic evil haunts us as the son of the late dictator Marcos, Sr. is poised to take office, after using social media rebranding to distance himself from the dark days of the Marcos martial law. In the most challenging time ahead of us, our VOICE as people of faith must continue to reverberate for truth, justice, and peace in the Philippines.  Our growing ecumenical cooperation is pivotal in asserting a democratic space and the respect for human rights and civil liberties.  For such a time as this, the Holy Scripture prepares us,

“See! I am sending you out like sheep into the midst of wolves; so be as wise as serpents and as innocent as dove.” (Matthew 10:16)

 This gathering hopes to

  1. remember and be inspired by the prophetic works of Fr. Rudy Romano and other church people during the time of Marcos’ dictatorship
  2. encourage church people to hold fast to the prophetic witness of the church at all times (be it during election time or beyond election)
  3. pursue the demand for accountability and recognition of the people’s demands for social and economic justice
  4. celebrate the biblical-theological affirmation along with Filipino spirituality of lamentation and rising up for justice.

May God’s grace continue to lead us through even as we are aware that tougher days are coming. Please bring tubao and roses. Salamat.

Blessings and peace,
