Global Climate Youth Strike

Good day PMPI Clusters!

It’s September! We are celebrating the Season of Creation the whole month of September until the 5th of October.

In the Philippines, this means a whole month of activities aimed at raising awareness of the climate emergency and generating numerous venues where people can gather, discuss, and act together on urgent social and environmental issues they are facing.

At the same time in the international level, in the push for countries to declare a climate emergency, a Global Climate Youth Strike will be mounted. The youth, together with millions of us, will walk out of our workplaces and homes to join young climate strikers on the streets and demand an end to the age of fossil fuels and other large-scale activities that destroy the environment.

In the Philippines, together with our neighboring countries, environmental groups will hold a huge mobilization on September 20, Friday at the Quezon City Circle to demand from our government action to massive environmental destruction that pushes more people to poverty.

Here in the NCR, the following are planned activities organized by PMPI partners and activities where PMPI will be participating:

In this regard, we are encouraging you, your organization, and your network to join this Global Climate Youth Strike.

Possible actions are: (1) hold a forum on the climate crisis and its impact to your sector, (2) organize mobilization, (3) concert for climate, (4) poster making contest, and (5) other activities where we can engage the youth, church, academe, civil society organization, and local government units in discussing and exploring local solutions or action to this one global concern.

If the above will not be possible, or if you can combine a social media campaign, we would like to request that you take a photo or video of yourself, your family members, and friends, inviting everyone, especially the youth to join the Global Climate Strike with emphasis on why it is important to act now.
